Vivek started his career as a research engineer at SDL, Inc., the premier high power III-V semiconductor laser company that enabled the telecommunications infrastructure which fueled the internet's growth.  At SDL, Vivek worked on a number of semiconductor laser products including high speed transmitters, fiber amplifier pumps, and narrow linewidth DFBs, achieving world record results. In 2001, SDL was acquired by JDSU and Vivek moved to Santur Corp, a tunable semiconductor laser startup funded by top-tier VC’s, where he built and managed the manufacturing organization from hand-building first prototype samples to creating and managing a 1000 unit/week production line. From Santur (acquired by NeoPhotonics), Vivek moved on to Coherent, one of the world’s largest industrial laser companies, as a product manager and developed new products for emerging defense and industrial markets while increasing revenue and gross margin of his product lines. After a stint in sales, Vivek is now at a Silicon Valley Fortune 100 technology company in the Office of the Corporate CTO, primarily focused on creating products for the energy and semiconductor markets.

In addition to his technical career, Vivek can be found performing stand-up comedy at corporate events, weddings, university galas, non-profit fundraisers, the San Jose Improv, and hosting at San Francisco’s world-famous Purple Onion. In addition, he produced, wrote, and performed a sold out one-man show, “Sounds of My Dreams,” in January, 2012 at the Alcove Theater in San Francisco, the proceeds of which, $1500, were donated to Oakland Unified Schools towards science camp in Marin County for underprivileged middle school students living in East Oakland. He is in production again to perform "Sounds of My Dreams" in the Fall of 2012 in San Jose and San Francisco and is also developing a pilot for cable TV. He's studied Meisner Acting (1 year) and improv at Second City (Chicago), iO West (Hollywood), Pan Theater (Oakland), Second City (Hollywood), and BATS. In addition, he is a member of the San Francisco Comedy College.  Vivek attended MIT and UCSC as an undergraduate and holds an MS in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in Communications Theory from Santa Clara University.
